Row 4:  (Ch 1 = 1st st)  Complete 1 sc in the 2nd st, 1 dc in each of the 3rd – 13th st, and 1 sc in each of the 14th and 15th st.  (15)  Ch 1 and turn.

Row 5:  (Ch 1 = 1st st)  Complete 1 sc in the 2nd st, 1 fpdc in each of the 3rd – 13th st, and 1 sc in each of the 14th and 15th st.  (15)  Ch 1 and turn.

Repeat rows 4 and 5 seven times.  Knot and cut strand approximately 12″ in length.  (The end strand will be used to assemble the pumpkin.)

Assemble Pumpkin:

Position the pumpkin body so that the pumpkin body is oriented with the “wrong side” facing outward.  Align the side edges (“wrong side facing outward, “right side” facing inward) and sew together using a yarn needle and the 12″ strand created after crocheting the pumpkin body.

Continue to the bottom edge (“wrong side” still facing outward).  With the yarn needle and existing strand, weave in and out of every other row completed in “crochet pumpkin” – threading through the single crochets on the outer edge.  Pull strand tight to close opening at the bottom of the pumpkin.  Knot and trim strand, weaving inside the pumpkin.

Turn the pumpkin body right side out and stuff with polyfill stuffing.

With a new strand of yarn and the yarn needle, weave in and out of every other row on the top of the pumpkin.  Pull strand tight to close the opening at the top of the pumpkin.  Knot and trim strand, weaving inside the pumpkin.

Crochet Stem:

Row 1:  Ch 5.

Row 2:  Skip the 1st ch.  Threading through the front loop only, complete 2 sc in each of the 2nd – 5th st.  Knot.  Trim strand to approximately 8″ long as it will be used to attach the stem to the pumpkin.

Attach Stem:

Position the stem (end with 8″ long strand) in the center of the top of the pumpkin.  Using the end strand and yarn needle, sew into place.  Only attach 1/4″ – 1/2″ of the stem to the pumpkin.  The remaining portion of the stem will curl upward.  Trim strands, weaving them in the inside of the pumpkin.
